LINKS

Many of our non-military friends & family have asked about my job here in 29 Palms. I have yet to post about my position with "Marine Corps Family Team Building" and wanted to take the opportunity to share about what I do everyday from 7:30-4:30!MCCS (Marine Corps Community Services) runs most programs aboard Marine Corps Bases, and Twentynine Palms is no exception! Marine Corps Family Team Building is just one of the many organizations that falls under the umbrella of MCCS. The goal of MCFTB is to meet the needs of USMC/NAVY families, especially during deployments. LINKS the program I work for (which falls under MCFTB); specializes in educationing spouses about military life and how to thrive as a USMC/NAVY family. We teach wives about USMC traditions, the history of the Corps, getting around on base, reading your husband's pay check, living through deployments, moving to new duty stations, investing in your USMC community & your career options in, and out of the military. Most of our classes are held in a comfortable "living room" type setting. We have guest speakers from base organizations come and share, as well as older wives who want to educate younger wives about life in the Corps! Twice a year we hold an interactive LINKS session known as CAX (Combined Arms Exercise) we leave out the Arms...This is an opportunity for wives to experience just a hint of what their husbands do everyday! The photos above are all from our Fall October 2008 CAX, which was a HUGE success. The wives participate in an obsticle course, they ride on a 7-ton truck wearing flack jackets & kevlar helmets and they finish off the day with an MRE (Meal Ready to Eat) for lunch. More than 50 wives attended and we had great support from our MCFTB team as well as our LINKS mentors. I'm thankful it's over, but to see how much the wives enjoy the day makes it all worth it!
Needless to say...I LOVE my Job! We count it a huge blessing to be employed, especially during the deployment. There are few jobs on base that I'd enjoy more than this one...so if you're ever in 29 & want to stop by for a LINKS class, Please do!
